What we do

Addressing needs and aspirations

Making inroads to improve opportunities for children in and out of school and supporting disadvantaged families and individuals is essential to reducing poverty, crime and improving community well being. LES focuses on children, young people and individuals whose circumstances leave them especially disadvantaged and marginalised, including those from lone parent families, hard to reach children, and black boys.

We work directly with children and young people to raise their awareness about the importance of learning and skills for now and the future and to provide them with quality access to supplementary education and skills development opportunities, indoor and outdoor activities as well as coaching and mentoring.

Our projects tackle the syndrome of underachievement and alienation - dual failure of school and at home - which too often leads to literally years of school absenteeism, marginalisation, drugs, guns and gang culture; thereby helping to reducing crime.

Our programmes include:

tailor-made education and out of school hours diversionary strategies.

alternative education for children at risk of exclusion or already excluded from school.

health, sports, recreation projects for the whole community.

LES makes available in other ways the escape, excitement, achievement and self-esteem which too many youngsters seek through crime, street robbery, burglary or drugs. We prepare children for lifelong learning by utilizing the resources and leadership of LES staff and students.

We constantly consult people about their learning needs and by evaluating the impact of our work, we are able to suggest positive ways forward.

We have a track record of sustainability and long-term success in all projects.
